[written by Shape+Color] I love it when my expectations (and my notions of what belongs where) are shattered. And when it’s done by a beautifully-honed image, then that’s even more kick ass. It’s the sort of unassuming subtlety of these shots by Basque photographer Mikel Uribetxeberria that gets me. The locations are sort of banal and sterile, while the animals don’t appear unnerved; they’re almost pensively bored more than anything else. It’s the apparent, unapologetic normalcy of such an incrediblly abnormal situation that makes these shots so interesting.
This poor kitten was brutally injured then had his hind legs and tail surgically removed. It's unknown how he got injured. He was nursed back to health by the employees of this book store in Akita, Japan and is now living at an adopted home. It's inspiring to see him walk around with ease but also really heartbreaking.
Inspired by nature documentaries and science photography, fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø created ‘Parroquet’, a series of photographs and short videos exploring the sleek, mutli-hued avian beauty of the parroquet, a type of long-tailed parrot. Presented by SHOWStudio, the pictures are stunningly beautiful. Interesting how nature and evolution have created a palette of colour as gorgeous as, arguably more gorgeous than, any art created by human hands.
The only thing more beautiful that the photographs are the eight videos; little slow-motion epics of the perroquets in flight. The colours are so deep and brilliant it’s almost hard to believe that they’re only feathers.
