Cafe Sabarsky

Just had some tasty Sabarskytorte (Chocolate and rum cake) at Cafe Sabarsky inside the Neue Galerie. One of the few places in New York where you feel completely transplanted away from America. link

Joshua Tree National Park

Here's some pics from my hike to Joshua Tree National Park this weekend. The landscape is so alien yet so inviting. It's one of the few places on earth that I feel completely surrendering myself to the bigness of the sky and earth.

Here's an article and archive of an NPR segment by Elizabeth Shogren that reports on the disappearing Joshua Trees. I really hope they don't go extinct soon.

Key West street trash

In New York, most of the trash on the sidewalks are rather unsightly. In Key West, I kept stepping around these beautiful things. palm.jpeg

Horseback Riding in Paradise

Few places live up to the hopeful names of a place - Los Angeles, Eden Falls, Bloomfield...

But Paradise, New Zealand is a place that doesn't feel like an exaggeration. The rolling hills, gentle forests, spectacular views of Dart River and the surrounding mountains were stunningly beautiful. It's hard to describe the thrill and it's best experienced with all your senses but here are some pictures I took on a trip this weekend:

The horseback ride itself was a joy, despite the fact that I haven't ridden in almost 30 years, thanks to the great guide Pear and his gentle horses. Check out Dart Stable's Ride of the Rings Tour. Not being a dedicated Lord of the Rings fan, his detailed explanations of each scenes shot in Paradise didn't quite register. But the stories of Peter Jackson's challenges of shooting a massive blockbuster were fascinating non the less.

Clouds

summer_sunset.jpg
[Summer Sky above PS1, Long Island City - shot by myself]

A few years ago, I found myself feeling wonderfully inspired by the big skies in Montana. Even with the majestic mountains towering in the distance, these skies seemed to stretch farther than any of the skies I've seen above New York. I miss looking up to the big and swift moving clouds as I negotiate the canyons of the city... but on rare summer days, these puffy creatures are seen vacationing here. Come back more often, big sky country clouds.

color of summer

To some, the color of summer is yellow (sunflowers) or green (lush fields). For me, it's red. Watermelons, popsicles, ladybugs...
